Neighbors Solves the Mystery with Youth Savings Week! - Monday, April 15, 2013

The National Credit Union Association celebrates the annual Youth Savings Week this April 22nd- 27th, and Neighbors’ "Savings Sleuth” game encourages young members to see how easy and fun saving money can be!

All youth who open a savings account or make at least a $10 deposit into their savings account will receive a scratch off card game piece. Every card is a winner for one of these fun prizes: Nate Pencils, Savings Sleuth Lunch Bags, Savings Sleuth Mood Cups, and of course Piggy Banks. Young members can make the minimum daily deposits any time before April 27th and win prizes!

During the actual Youth Savings Week, there is a little something extra in addition to the scratch-off prizes! Youth making deposits between April 22nd and 27th will receive a fun "fingerstasche” to show the world that they have solved the mystery of saving. All youth who make their deposits will be entered in to a grand prize drawing for $100 gift card! The winner will be announced May 1st, so bring your youth in today to start winning!

Originally, the youth savings event was introduced as a day-long component of the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) curriculum. One decade later, NEFE gave the event to the Jump$tart Coalition and in 2000 and what began as "Financial Literacy Day” became Youth Financial Literacy Month. April’s official designation as "Financial Literacy for Youth Month” was officially recognized in 2003 in by the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives and officially designated in resolution 316 as "National Financial Literacy Month” in 2004.
