Area Credit Unions Raise $25,000 for Charity - Tuesday, January 29, 2013

BATON ROUGE – Campus Federal, Pelican State and Neighbors Federal Credit Unions raised more than $24,700 for Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital by hosting the 9th Annual Credit Union Charity Golf Tournament at Santa Maria Golf Course in Baton Rouge. This year's donation was the highest in tournament history.

The total raised for the hospital includes a $5,000 Miracle Match from Co-Op Financial Services. Miracle Match is a philanthropic matching program that encourages credit unions to fundraise for local Children Miracle Network Hospitals such as OLOL Children's Hospital.

OLOL Children's Hospital is Louisiana's second largest children's hospital. Last year, the hospital saw children from 61 of 64 Louisiana parishes and treated nearly 80,000 patients. "No child is turned away regardless of ability to pay,” said John Paul Funes, President and CEO of OLOL Children's Hospital.

"We rely on community support to continue our mission of hope and healing for all of our children. We are so thankful for the support of these credit unions. It is very unique to see businesses in the same industry join forces like this to support a good cause,” said Funes.

More than 100 professionals from credit unions and local business came together to support this charity event. Participating credit unions included E Federal, La Capital, Barksdale, Carter Federal, Louisiana USA, DOW and BR Telco. The Louisiana Credit Union League (LCUL) and the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) also sponsored this fundraiser.

Other sponsors were Financial Systems Group, Liberty Mutual, Ross & Yerger, Credit Union Acceptance Company, Enterprise, Affinion, SMRS, Fiserv, Harland Clarke, McGlinchey Stafford, Shannon E. Price, Success Labs, Golden Opportunities, Sprint Print, Curtis 1000, BAFS, XACT Business Solutions, InterproTechnology and Motion Marketing.

This event has been planned in the cooperative spirit of credit unions for nine years and is a testament to the industry philosophy of ‘people helping people.' It is planned and supported by the CEOs of the three host credit unions: John Milazzo of Campus Federal, Jeffrey K. Conrad of Pelican State and Kathi Gill of Neighbors Federal.

Past charity beneficiaries have included Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area, Habitat for Humanity, and March of Dimes.
