Neighbors Way Tuition Assistance Award

We believe in the value of education and support students' goals. The Neighbors Way Tuition Assistance Award aims to subsidize the cost of tuition for local students entering their first year of college.

Each year, the 15 area schools that participate in the Neighbors Mascot Checking Program are invited to nominate one graduating senior to receive the scholarship. Schools nominate students based on their character and commitment to living the “Neighbors Way” and exemplifying the credit union’s core values of Integrity, Respect, Trust, Stability, Community Involvement, Honesty, Empathy, Ethical Behavior, and Fairness.

Funds for the program are raised through four major avenues – the internal Employee Payroll Donation Program, the Foundation’s annual fundraiser, and Clays for a Cause. Miscellaneous fundraisers and direct contributions from NFCU generate the remainder of the funds.

We are extremely proud to have awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships to 82 students in Greater Baton Rouge since our program started.

Neighbors Day

Every October, Neighbors FCU’s 250 employees gather for Neighbors Day – a city-wide day of service to give back to Greater Baton Rouge. Employee volunteers partner with more than a dozen local organizations to contribute more than 1,000 hours of service to the community. Neighbors Day is designed to provide much-needed assistance to those in need and inspire others in Baton Rouge to give back.

We established Neighbors Day after the Great Flood of 2016 when so many employees and members were deeply affected. Neighbors staff members went out into the community to support their neighbors in need and left a lasting impression. We established this annual day of service in their honor

Clays for a Cause

The Foundation will host its 12th annual Clays for a Cause sporting clays tournament this year, with proceeds benefiting the Neighbors Way Tuition Assistance Award.
