Three new ways to help kids save, spend, and build money confidence—coming November 1.
Birthday money. Chore money. That first paycheck. Kids usually have plenty of ideas about how to spend it. Learning how to save it, manage it, and make it last? That takes a little practice.
That’s where NXTGEN Youth Banking from Neighbors Federal Credit Union comes in.
Launching November 1, 2026, NXTGEN brings together three new accounts—Youth Savings, My First Checking, and Teen Checking—designed to help kids and teens build good financial habits through real-world experience, with a parent or guardian along for the journey.
From a first deposit to a first debit card, here’s a peek at what’s coming.
Youth Savings: Small Deposits. Big Possibilities.
Every goal needs a starting point. For young savers ages 0–17, Youth Savings will make getting started simple with a $5 opening deposit, no monthly fees, and 7.00% APY on the first $500*.
Whether your child is setting aside birthday money for a new bike or you’re helping them save for something further down the road, this account gives those dollars a place to grow—and gives you a way to talk about why saving matters.
Make a deposit. Check the balance. Get a little closer to the goal. It’s a lesson kids can see taking shape.
My First Checking: Their Own Card. Your Guiding Hand.
First allowance. First debit card. First time discovering that a $20 balance doesn’t cover a $30 wish list.
Built for kids ages 6–13, My First Checking will turn everyday money moments into opportunities to learn. Kids will get their own debit card, with 10 designs to choose from, plus access to select digital banking tools that introduce the basics without handing over every feature at once.
They’ll also earn 7.00% APY on the first $250*, with no monthly fees or minimum balance requirement.
And the learning won’t stop at checking a balance. Kids can request money, practice budgeting, and receive rewards from parents or guardians for completed chores and good grades.
A parent or guardian remains a joint owner, giving kids room to practice while keeping a trusted grown-up involved.
Teen Checking: More Independence. More Know-How.
First jobs, weekend plans, saving for a car—the teen years bring more reasons to get comfortable managing money.
Designed for ages 14–17, Teen Checking will offer full access to the Neighbors digital banking suite, giving teens tools to track their money, manage spending, and work toward savings goals.
They’ll get their own debit card, a choice of 10 card designs, and 7.00% APY on the first $250*, with no monthly fees or minimum balance requirement.
A parent or guardian stays connected as a joint owner, so more independence doesn’t have to mean figuring everything out alone.
A Little Freedom for Them. Helpful Tools for You.
Learning to manage money takes practice—and sometimes a little backup.
With both NXTGEN checking accounts, parents and guardians will be able to monitor account activity, set daily debit card spending limits, and lock or unlock a misplaced card. Because learning where you last left your wallet is apparently part of growing up, too.
The checking accounts are also designed to grow with your child. My First Checking automatically becomes Teen Checking at age 14, and Teen Checking automatically becomes Geaux Free Checking at age 18.
The tools change as they grow. The opportunity to keep building good habits stays.
Their Next Money Milestone Starts November 1
You don’t have to wait for a first paycheck to start a conversation about money. Sometimes, all it takes is a few birthday dollars, a savings goal, and a little guidance.
NXTGEN Youth Banking arrives November 1 at Neighbors Federal Credit Union. Watch for more details as launch day gets closer—and get ready to help your child take their next step toward money confidence.
APY = Annual Percentage Yield. APYs are accurate as of October 6, 2026. The 7.00% APY applies to balances up to $500 in Youth Savings and balances up to $250 in My First Checking and Teen Checking. Youth Savings is available to ages 0–17; My First Checking to ages 6–13; and Teen Checking to ages 14–17. Each account requires a primary minor owner and a parent or guardian joint owner. Youth Savings automatically converts to Member Savings on the primary owner’s 18th birthday. My First Checking automatically converts to Teen Checking on the primary owner’s 14th birthday. Teen Checking automatically converts to Geaux Free Checking on the primary owner’s 18th birthday.
